Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,092 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 417 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320neo taxied from the parking area to the runway at LOWG Graz Airport in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm.
Departure roll was conducted on runway 34C at Graz, with a takeoff distance of 1,551 m representing 52 % of the runway length; liftoff was achieved at 151 kt. Local weather reported a temperature of 18 °C, wind 14 kt from 330°, a 5 kt crosswind component and a 13 kt headwind component.
Climb began overhead Feldkirchen bei Graz, ascending from 2,096 ft asl to 37,999 ft asl, an increase of 35,903 ft in 19 minutes while covering 106 nm.
The first cruise segment started 2 mi southwest of Niederkappel, lasting 42 minutes and extending over 273 nm.
Descent commenced 1 mi southeast of Parsau, descending from 38,000 ft asl to 30,321 ft asl, a loss of 7,678 ft in 3 minutes and covering 22 nm.
A brief cruise followed 2 mi west of Schnega, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 10 nm.
The next descent began 1 mi north of Stoetze, dropping from 29,253 ft asl to 2,859 ft asl, a decrease of 26,394 ft in 18 minutes and covering 82 nm.
A short cruise segment started overhead Jersbek, lasting 2 minutes and covering 6 nm.
Final approach to runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport involved a descent from 1,653 ft agl to 60 ft agl in 103 seconds, with the aircraft scoring on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 23 was executed with a threshold speed of 131 kt, touchdown distance of 420 m, touchdown speed of 124 kt and a touchdown rate of minus 272 fpm; runway length is 3,092 m and local weather recorded a temperature of 11 °C, wind 3 kt from 330°, a 3 kt crosswind and a 1 kt tailwind component.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the total landing distance measured 1,157 m, representing 37 % of the runway.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 510 nm, took 100 minutes, and consumed 3,241 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A320neo approached runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport in a stabilised configuration, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits as assessed at the 1,000 ft gate. The descent progressed from 1,653 ft agl to 60 ft agl in 103 seconds, and the final approach was conducted in temperature 11 °C, wind 3 kt from 330°, with a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt tail-wind component; the overall score recorded was 97.2 %.
At the threshold the height was reported as good and the threshold speed was slightly below target at 131 kt.
Touchdown occurred 420 m down the runway, with a touchdown speed of 124 kt judged good, a touchdown rate of -272 fpm described as fair, and runway touchdown alignment perfect.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,157 m, representing 37 % of the 3,092 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Minor refinements should focus on achieving the exact threshold speed target and moderating the descent rate to reduce the -272 fpm touchdown vertical speed, which will further improve the already high landing score.
