MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,527 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,527 m of the 2,119 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 366 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Frankfurt Airport, where it departed from runway 07C and took to the skies. The takeoff was smooth, with a distance of 1,247 meters, or 31% of the runway, covered in a short amount of time.
The initial climb took the aircraft up to 35,993 feet as it departed Frankfurt Airport and headed towards the Netherlands, where it began its level cruise at an altitude of 37,398 feet. The cruise period lasted for 61 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 421 nautical miles. Once the enroute cruise was completed, the aircraft began its descent, which started 6 miles northwest of Saint Davids in Wales.
As it descended, the aircraft encountered varying weather conditions, eventually making a final approach to runway 16 at Cork Airport in Ireland. However, the pilots performed a go-around at 19 feet above the ground, after which they successfully executed a landing. The touchdown speed was a little fast, but the touchdown distance was good, coming in at 366 meters. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the pilots displaying excellent control.
Following a successful landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, where it was secured after the flight. Throughout the journey, the aircraft used a total of 6,175 kg of fuel, covering a distance of 675 nautical miles. The flight duration was 132 minutes, which is an impressive feat given the aircraft's speed and the varying weather conditions encountered along the way.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Cork Airport (EICK) with a high score of 96.2%. The final approach to runway 16 began from the north, with a heading of 160.0° at an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
As the aircraft made its way towards the runway, it demonstrated good threshold height, indicating a safe and controlled descent. The threshold speed, which is the speed at touch down, was slightly above the target speed at 136 kt. This may be due to the aircraft's performance in the prevailing wind conditions.
The touchdown distance was good at 366 meters, which is a safe and manageable distance for the aircraft to come to rest. However, the touchdown speed of 130 kt was a little fast, indicating that the aircraft could have used some more brake application to slow down. The touchdown rate of -400 feet per minute was firm, which means the aircraft touched down with significant speed, but the runway was long enough to accommodate it.
The aircraft demonstrated perfect runway alignment, which is crucial for a safe touchdown. The weather conditions were moderate, with a temperature of 14°C and winds of 15 kt from 210°. The crosswind of 12 kt and headwind of 10 kt contributed to the aircraft's performance.
The total landing distance of 1,444 meters was 68% of the runway length, which is acceptable. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft. Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and performance in various aspects.
