Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,447 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 242 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 06 at ELLX Luxembourg-Findel International Airport. The takeoff distance was 858 meters, which accounted for 22% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 19 knots at an angle of 49 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 18 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Sandweiler, Luxembourg, and ascending from 2,224 feet above sea level to 35,229 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,004 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 117 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting overhead Battenheim, France, and lasting 11 minutes, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 1 mile south east of Gersau, Switzerland, and descending from 36,626 feet above sea level to 12,824 feet above sea level, a decrease of 23,802 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 89 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting overhead Bellusco, Italy, and lasting 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The descent phase resumed, starting overhead Pozzo d'Adda, Italy, and descending from 12,507 feet above sea level to 1,641 feet above sea level, a decrease of 10,865 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 15 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at LIML Milano Linate Airport was made from the south, heading 356.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,291 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 36, which had a length of 2,447 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 128 knots. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 126 knots, and the touchdown rate was hard at -453 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 17.8 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 8 knots at an angle of 290 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,182 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 26.8 meters from the centreline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 302 nautical miles, taking 78 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,948 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at LIML Milano Linate Airport, but with some notable areas for improvement. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 356.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,291 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 36, which has a length of 2,447 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed of 128 knots was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was slightly higher than desired, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -453 feet per minute (fpm) was also somewhat hard, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to reduce the rate of descent to achieve a softer touchdown.
One of the most notable issues with this landing was the significant misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 17.8 meters off-centerline. This suggests that the pilot may have been struggling to maintain a stable approach path or may have been affected by crosswind or other factors. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 11°C and a wind of 8 knots at 290°, were relatively calm, which should have made it easier for the pilot to maintain a stable approach.
The total landing distance of 1,182 meters was 48% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 26.8 meters from centerline, which suggests that the pilot may have been struggling to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there are several areas where the pilot could improve their performance. With practice and attention to these issues, the pilot should be able to achieve a smoother and more stable landing.
