Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,632 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,632 m of the 3,411 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 530 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 23R at HECA Cairo International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,218 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots at a direction of 350 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a tailwind of 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of HEAZ Almaza Air Force Base El Nozha. The climb took 20 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,484 feet above sea level to 39,789 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 117 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 51 miles northeast of Rosetta and lasted for 23 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 162 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 74 miles west of Pegeia, Cyprus. The descent took 9 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 39,438 feet above sea level to 17,823 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 63 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 37 miles southeast of Cirali, Turkey, and lasted for 5 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 30 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 15 miles south of FC02 Antalya Static Carrier - CVN78. The descent took 13 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 17,771 feet above sea level to 2,646 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a final level cruise phase, which started 2 miles north of FC02 Antalya Static Carrier - CVN78 and lasted for 3 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 36R at LTAI Antalya International Airport, approaching from the south at a heading of 6.0 degrees and at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,283 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 36R was successful, with the touchdown point being 111 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 131 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate was firm at -388 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 14 knots at a direction of 320 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 10 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,547 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 35.5 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 409 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 82 minutes. The aircraft used 2,996 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at LTAI Antalya International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach to runway 36R was initiated from the south, with a heading of 6.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's speed and altitude were well within the target parameters, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 131 knots, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown point was located 111 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run. The touchdown rate of -388 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled and stable landing. Despite these positive aspects, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.1 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the over-run.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 320°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was also 10 knots. These conditions were relatively calm, and the aircraft's performance was not significantly affected by the wind.
The total landing distance of 1,547 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 35.5 meters from the centerline, indicating a loss of directional control during the landing roll. This misalignment may have been caused by the initial touchdown point being beyond the designated touchdown zone, which could have led to a longer landing roll and a greater deviation from the centerline.
Overall, the landing was successful, but with some notable deviations from the ideal parameters. The aircraft's performance was affected by the misaligned touchdown point and the subsequent loss of directional control during the landing roll. However, the pilot's ability to maintain control and bring the aircraft to a stable stop was evident, despite these challenges.
