Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,720 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,720 m of the 3,998 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 775 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft departed from runway 36C at LTAI Antalya International Airport, located in Antalya, Turkey, in ideal conditions. The ambient temperature was 31°C, and the wind speed was relatively gentle at 12 knots from a direction of 300 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 11 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
As the plane started its departure roll, it quickly picked up speed, reaching liftoff velocity at 162 knots. After taking off, the aircraft began its enroute climb, ascending 7,337 feet from 787 feet above sea level (asl) to 8,124 feet asl within a short 3-minute period. This initial climb took place 1 mile north of the Antalya airport, with the plane covering 10 nautical miles (nm) during this segment.
Following a brief level cruise segment of 3 minutes, covering 13 nm, the plane began its second climb segment near the city of Serik, Turkey. The aircraft's vertical gain during this phase was substantial, reaching 28,163 feet from 9,381 feet asl to 37,543 feet asl, all within a duration of 16 minutes and covering a distance of 96 nm.
After this extended climb, the plane entered a final level cruise segment near the city of Beykonak, Turkey, where it remained at an altitude of 37,543 feet for 23 minutes, covering an additional 183 nm.
As the aircraft approached the coast of Egypt, it began its descent into the Cairo area, starting a gentle downward trajectory from 38,218 feet asl to 14,546 feet asl, a decrease of 23,672 feet, in just 13 minutes, covering 99 nm.
Throughout Egypt, the plane continued its enroute descent, reducing its altitude from 14,392 feet asl to 1,909 feet asl in only 10 minutes, covering 20 nm. Prior to reaching the final approach course to HECA Cairo International Airport, the aircraft made a final minor climb and level cruise near Zefta, Egypt.
After descending to a suitable altitude, the plane began its final approach to runway 05R at HECA Cairo International Airport, approaching from the southwest with a heading of 49.0°. Despite an initial discrepancy in the threshold height, the plane successfully touched down at 145 knots and 135 knots, respectively, with a touchdown point located 349 meters beyond the touchdown zone.
However, there were some deviations in terms of runway alignment and touchdown speed during landing and roll, with the runway touchdown position being significantly misaligned by 20.5 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment being misaligned by 30.7 meters. The plane consumed 3,299 kg of fuel in total and covered a distance of 453 nm, taking approximately 1 hour and 51 minutes to complete the entire flight.
As the aircraft concluded its journey, it taxied to the parking area at HECA Cairo International Airport, covering a distance of 2 nm in 9 minutes, thus bringing the journey to an end.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed on runway 05R at Cairo International Airport (HECA), despite some deviations from the optimal landing parameters. The final approach began from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 49.0° at a height of 4 nautical miles and 1,558 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on the designated runway 05R, which has a length of 3,998 meters.
Upon reaching the runway threshold, the aircraft's height was significantly above the target height, standing at 84 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was recorded as 145 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was located 349 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft touched down farther down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 135 knots was also within acceptable limits, suggesting a controlled and stable descent.
However, there were some areas where the landing could be improved. The touchdown rate was recorded as -267 feet per minute (fpm), which is classified as fair. Ideally, a rate of -200 fpm or lower is considered optimal for a smooth landing. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned with the centerline by 20.5 meters, indicating that the aircraft did not land directly on the center of the runway.
Weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 31°C, a wind speed of 16 knots at a direction of 20° (compass), and a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The headwind, in particular, was beneficial for the aircraft's landing, as it provided a slight assist in the landing process. Despite the deviations, the aircraft came to a stop within 1,630 meters of the touchdown point, utilizing 41% of the runway length.
The runway rollout alignment also strayed from the centerline, deviating by 30.7 meters from the intended path. This deviation suggests that the aircraft's brakes may have been applied unevenly or that the pilots lost traction momentarily during the rollout. Despite these issues, the overall performance of the Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft during the landing was satisfactory, and the aircraft safely came to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
