Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 319 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a quick taxi from the parking area to the runway, taking less than a minute and covering less than a nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 29 at CYBG CFB Bagotville / Saguenay-Bagotville Airport. The takeoff distance was 416 meters, which is 14% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 66 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°.
As the aircraft climbed out of CYBG, it reached an altitude of 4,028 feet above sea level, increasing by 2,493 feet in just 4 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles. The enroute climb started over La Baie, Quebec, and continued for several segments, with the aircraft reaching an altitude of 10,262 feet above sea level. The climb from 4,511 feet to 10,262 feet took 14 minutes and covered 22 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 27 minutes and covering 48 nautical miles. This was followed by a descent from 10,810 feet to 1,908 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,901 feet in 18 minutes and covering 24 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 06 at CYQB Quebec Jean Lesage International Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 45.0° at 4 nautical miles and 851 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 06 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 317 meters and a touchdown speed of 51 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -378 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 665 meters, which is 24% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 3 minutes and covering less than a nautical mile. The total flight distance was 115 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 83 minutes. The aircraft used 29 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at CYQB Quebec Jean Lesage International Airport, with a score of 82.8%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 45.0° at 4 nautical miles and 851 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 06, which has a length of 2,737 meters.
The threshold height at 77 feet agl was well above the target, indicating a good approach path. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 54 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or airspeed management. The touchdown distance of 317 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 51 knots was also within acceptable limits.
The touchdown rate of -378 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path or the aircraft's alignment during the final stages of the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot, which had a minimal impact on the aircraft's approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 665 meters was 24% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 82.8% reflecting the aircraft's good performance during the approach and landing phases.
