Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The rest of the report
Departing from Istanbul's SB08, the Icon A5 aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 08, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 51 kt. The aircraft utilized 70% of the available runway length, covering a distance of 1,407 m before lifting off into the air. Local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C, with a gentle tailwind of 2 kt blowing from the west.
As the aircraft climbed away from Istanbul, it transitioned into an enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 52 ft above sea level to 1,786 ft. This climb phase was notable for its rapid ascent, with the aircraft increasing its altitude by 1,734 ft in just 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 4 nm. The climb was executed smoothly, with the aircraft maintaining a steady heading and altitude.
The Icon A5 subsequently began its final approach to runway 23 at LTBA İstanbul Atatürk Airport, descending from an altitude of 1,670 ft above ground level. The aircraft approached from the north-east, aligning itself with the runway at a heading of 221.0 °. Although the threshold speed was slightly higher than optimal at 75 kt, the landing was executed successfully, with the aircraft touching down on the 2,442 m long runway. The total flight distance was 8 nm, with the aircraft consuming 2 kg of fuel during the 8-minute flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 at LTBA İstanbul Atatürk Airport, with a threshold height of 1,670 feet above ground level (agl) and a heading of 221.0° from the north east. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a steady descent rate of 1,200 feet per minute (fpm) and a ground speed of 120 knots (222 km/h) at 500 feet agl. The aircraft maintained a centreline alignment throughout the approach, with a deviation of only 0.5° from the centreline.
As the aircraft touched down, the threshold speed was slightly higher than desired at 75 knots (139 km/h), resulting in a slight bounce. However, the pilot was able to recover quickly and maintain control of the aircraft. The touchdown characteristics were otherwise good, with a deceleration rate of 10.5 g and a stopping distance of 1,200 feet. The aircraft remained on the centreline throughout the rollout, with a deviation of only 0.2° from the centreline.
The overall performance of the aircraft was satisfactory, with a score of 82.4%. The approach quality and centreline alignment were good, but the threshold speed was slightly higher than desired. The touchdown characteristics were good, but the bounce on touchdown was a minor issue. Overall, the pilot demonstrated good control and recovery skills, but there is room for improvement in terms of threshold speed management.
