Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,728 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,728 m of the 3,287 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 244 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport. This process took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24L, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,007 meters, which was 25% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 148 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 22 knots coming from a direction of 230 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 21 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,163 feet above sea level to 33,881 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,718 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Karlshagen, Germany, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 1 mile northwest of Koepingebro, Sweden, and descending from 33,793 feet above sea level to 31,755 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,038 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again overhead Vollsjoe, Sweden, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile south of Tyringe, Sweden, and descending from 31,753 feet above sea level to 1,803 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,950 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 98 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 03 at ESGG Göteborg Landvetter Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 26.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 323 feet above ground level, and again at an altitude of 8 feet above ground level. The aircraft eventually landed on runway 03 at ESGG Göteborg Landvetter Airport, with a runway length of 3,287 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was above the target speed of 142 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 245 meters, but the touchdown speed of 132 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -462 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.9 meters from the centerline, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -8 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 15 knots coming from a direction of 340 degrees. The crosswind was 11 knots, and the headwind was 10 knots. The total landing distance was 1,643 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.5 meters from the centerline.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 2 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 347 nautical miles, taking 87 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,325 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at ESGG Göteborg Landvetter Airport, achieving a score of 94.9%. The final approach to runway 03 was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 26.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,287 meters, with a good threshold height.
The threshold speed was initially reported as good at 126 knots, but it was later noted that the threshold speed was well above the target at 142 knots. This indicates that the aircraft may have been slightly overpowered during the landing, potentially affecting the overall performance. The touchdown distance was good at 245 meters, but the touchdown speed of 132 knots was a little fast, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -462 feet per minute (fpm).
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -8°C, with a wind speed of 15 knots at 340°. The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots. These conditions may have affected the aircraft's performance during the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,643 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.5 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have deviated from the intended path during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown speed and runway alignment.
