Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 938 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 938 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 459 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 24 at LZZI Žilina-Dolný Hričov Airport. The aircraft, a TBM 850, accelerated down the 642-meter runway, covering 56% of its length, before lifting off at a speed of 94 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 1,151 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 3,940 feet. This climb, which lasted for 4 minutes, covered a distance of 11 nautical miles and resulted in an increase of 2,788 feet in altitude. The enroute climb phase of the flight started once the aircraft had cleared the airport, with the climb taking place over the town of Dolný Hričov, located near Žilina, Slovakia.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, during which it flew at a steady altitude for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 18 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place approximately 3 miles northwest of the town of Vrutky, also located near Žilina.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 06R at LZRU Ružomberok Airfield. The approach was made from the southwest, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 62.0 degrees and at an altitude of 2,209 feet above ground level. The local weather conditions at the time of the approach were similar to those at the time of takeoff, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees.
The landing itself was characterized by a touchdown point that was located very far down the runway, with the aircraft using more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown speed was also higher than desired, at 85 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm, at -372 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 692 meters, which accounted for 74% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned, by 10.2 meters from the centerline. Despite these issues, the aircraft was able to come to a stop safely, using a total of 43 kilograms of fuel during the flight. The total flight distance was 33 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 14 minutes.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at LZRU Ružomberok Airfield, but the landing was not without its challenges. The final approach to runway 06R was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 62.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 2,209 feet above ground level. The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was significantly long, utilizing more than 50% of the available runway length.
The touchdown speed of 85 knots was also faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to fully arrest the aircraft's descent before touching down. The touchdown rate of -372 feet per minute was firm, suggesting that the aircraft's wheels made contact with the runway with a moderate amount of force. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the long touchdown point and the firm touchdown rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the tailwind component was minimal at 1 knot. Despite these favorable conditions, the pilot was unable to achieve a more precise touchdown and rollout alignment.
The total landing distance of 692 meters was 74% of the available runway length, which is a relatively high percentage. This suggests that the aircraft may have been traveling at a higher speed than necessary, or that the pilot may have been unable to fully utilize the available runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the overall performance of the landing.
Overall, while the TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at LZRU Ružomberok Airfield, the landing was not without its challenges. The pilot may have benefited from additional training or practice to improve their ability to achieve a more precise touchdown and rollout alignment.
