Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: gear still up, off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,398 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 506 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an SR22, then departed from runway 21 at EDRZ Zweibrücken Airport. The takeoff distance was 208 meters, which accounted for 9% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 77 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 24 knots from a direction of 249°.
The crosswind component was 15 knots, while the headwind component was 18 knots. As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead Althornbach in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,844 feet above sea level to 3,591 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,747 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began 1 mile northwest of Kleinsteinhausen, where the aircraft descended from 3,654 feet above sea level to 1,807 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,847 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 21 at EDRZ Zweibrücken Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 214.0° at an altitude of 672 feet above ground level and a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway threshold.
The landing on runway 21 was successful, with the touchdown point being 95 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 62 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -68 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.9 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were similar to those at departure, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 249°.
The crosswind component was 15 knots, while the headwind component was 18 knots. The total landing distance was 631 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 8 minutes, during which the aircraft used 5 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft, identified as an SR22, successfully landed at EDRZ Zweibrücken Airport, with a final approach from the north east. The pilot's performance was evaluated, and the results showed a score of 82.7%. The approach was made to runway 21, which has a length of 2,398 meters.
During the final approach, the aircraft was at an altitude of 672 feet above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway, heading 214.0°. The pilot maintained a steady course, and the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 62 knots, which was within the target range. The touchdown speed was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -68 feet per minute (fpm).
However, there were some minor issues with the landing. The threshold height at 75 feet agl was well above the target, indicating that the pilot may have been slightly high on the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 85 knots. The touchdown point was 95 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight over-shooting of the target.
The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 4.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the approach. Despite these minor issues, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C and a wind speed of 23 knots at 249°. The crosswind component was 15 knots, and the headwind component was 18 knots. The total landing distance was 631 meters, which was 26% of the runway length. Overall, the pilot's performance was satisfactory, and the landing was successful.
