Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,999 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 403 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A319 then departed from runway 05R at Düsseldorf Airport, EDDL, with a takeoff distance of 265 meters, which accounted for 11% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 17°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 110°. The crosswind was 12 knots, while the headwind was 8 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile west of Ratingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, and saw the aircraft ascend from 1,166 feet above sea level to 28,874 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,708 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 61 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 5 miles northwest of Hirzenhain Airfield, EDFI, in Hessen, Germany. This phase lasted for 14 minutes and covered a distance of 108 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 2 miles east of Rentweinsdorf, Bavaria, Germany, and saw the aircraft descend from 28,572 feet above sea level to 3,046 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,526 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 76 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 11 at Karlovy Vary Airport, LKKV, was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 113.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,047 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 11 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 131 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown distance was good at 406 meters, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -92 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as during takeoff, with a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 15 knots at 110°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 15 knots. The total landing distance was 1,021 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 253 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 54 minutes. The aircraft used 2,177 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at Karlovy Vary Airport, achieving a high score of 99.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 113.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,047 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 11, which has a length of 1,999 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 136 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 131 knots was a bit faster than desired, indicating that the pilots may have needed to apply a bit more braking during the landing roll. Despite this, the touchdown distance of 406 meters was within acceptable limits.
The landing performance was further enhanced by an excellent touchdown rate of -92 feet per minute (fpm), which indicates a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilots' skill and attention to detail. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 17°C and a headwind of 15 knots, also contributed to a successful landing.
The total landing distance of 1,021 meters was 51% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll and applied the brakes smoothly.
Overall, the Airbus A319's landing at Karlovy Vary Airport was a success, with the pilots demonstrating their expertise and attention to detail. The high score of 99.6% reflects the aircraft's excellent performance and the pilots' skill in executing a smooth and controlled landing.
