Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,656 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,656 m of the 3,498 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 832 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India. The Airbus A320 took off with a takeoff distance of 761 meters, which is 22% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 261 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb was steep, with the aircraft ascending from 1,222 feet above sea level to 1,632 feet in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. This rapid ascent was followed by a brief level cruise, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began overhead Naroda, a nearby town in the state of Gujarat, India. The descent was from 1,856 feet above sea level to 645 feet, a decrease of 1,211 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 23 at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Airport, approaching from the north-east at a heading of 226.0 degrees and at an altitude of 444 feet above ground level.
The landing was smooth, with the touchdown speed being 105 knots, which was good. The touchdown point was 409 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -114 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,568 meters, which is 45% of the runway length. The aircraft used a total of 208 kilograms of fuel for the flight, which covered a distance of 8 nautical miles and took 5 minutes to complete.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Airport, achieving a high score of 95.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 226.0° at 1 nautical mile and 444 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed smoothly on runway 23, which has a length of 3,498 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 123 knots, which may have been due to various factors such as wind conditions or the aircraft's performance. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 105 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -114 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The touchdown point was 409 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. However, this may have been due to the aircraft's speed and the wind conditions at the time of landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, making the landing conditions ideal. The total landing distance of 1,568 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline after touchdown and during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, and the aircraft's performance was satisfactory.
