Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,773 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,773 m of the 3,219 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 727 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 08R at Miami International Airport (KMIA). The takeoff distance was 1,760 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 175 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 29°C and winds of 12 knots at 99°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 11 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of Brownsville, Florida, and the aircraft ascended from 1,009 feet above sea level to 37,152 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,142 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 115 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 5 miles southwest of Captiva, Florida, and lasted for 218 minutes, covering a distance of 1,489 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 5 miles southwest of the Winchester Farm Airstrip in Willcox, Arizona, and descended from 34,983 feet above sea level to 6,951 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,033 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 124 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, this time starting 1 mile south of Laveen, Arizona, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 5 miles south of Avondale, Arizona, and the aircraft descended from 6,931 feet above sea level to 2,395 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,535 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX) was made from the west, heading 90.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,263 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 08, which had a length of 3,219 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 145 knots.
The touchdown point was 310 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -213 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 17°C and winds of 10 knots at 30°. The crosswind was 9 knots, while the headwind was 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,691 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,756 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 289 minutes. The aircraft used 11,723 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KPHX Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, with a score of 92.2%. The final approach to runway 08 was initiated from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a slightly above-target threshold height of 56 feet agl and a slightly above-target threshold speed of 145 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 310 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 135 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more aggressively to reduce the touchdown speed. However, the touchdown rate of -213 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a minor error in the pilot's alignment with the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 10 knots at 30°, resulting in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,691 meters was 53% of the available runway length, which is a relatively acceptable distance considering the aircraft's weight and the wind conditions. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and align the aircraft with the centerline of the runway.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 92.2%. While there were some minor deviations from the target parameters, the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe and stable landing.
