Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,137 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,137 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 323 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KAIG Langlade County Airport, taking approximately 3 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 17, with a takeoff distance of 500 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 87 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of -4°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 170°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile southeast of KAIG Langlade County Airport, Antigo, and involved ascending from 2,235 feet above sea level to 18,052 feet, an increase of 15,817 feet in 12 minutes, covering 37 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise 7 miles north of Laona, Wisconsin, and remained at this altitude for 28 minutes, covering 130 nautical miles. The enroute descent then began 56 miles east of Calumet, Michigan, and involved descending from 17,604 feet to 4,495 feet, a decrease of 13,109 feet in 7 minutes, covering 29 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise 46 miles south of CYSP Marathon Airport, Marathon, Ontario, and remained at this altitude for 9 minutes, covering 36 nautical miles. The final descent started 12 miles south of CYSP Marathon Airport and involved descending from 3,614 feet to 1,823 feet, a decrease of 1,792 feet in 3 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 34 at CYSP Marathon Airport was made from the southeast, heading 333.0° at 4 nautical miles and 787 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 1,137 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was slightly below the target at 80 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 321 meters, and the touchdown speed was 69 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate was excellent at -70 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -8°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 45°, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 559 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 247 nautical miles, taking 67 minutes, and the aircraft used 308 kilograms of fuel.
The Vision Jet has successfully landed at CYSP Marathon Airport, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 333.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 787 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of -8°C and a wind speed of 6 knots at 45°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 34, which has a length of 1,137 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 80 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, measuring 321 meters. The touchdown speed of 69 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -70 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 3.1 meters off-centerline. This minor misalignment did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing. The total landing distance of 559 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout, the aircraft maintained very good alignment with the runway centerline, indicating a high level of control and precision from the pilot. Overall, the Vision Jet's landing at CYSP Marathon Airport was a success, with the aircraft performing well in a variety of conditions.
