Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,289 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 270 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport, runway 09, the Boeing 777-300 began its journey with a taxiing period of 12 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles to reach the runway. At 20 °C and with a wind of 21 kt at 9 °, the aircraft took off with a takeoff distance of 2,346 meters, utilizing 77% of the runway. Liftoff speed was achieved at 203 kt, marking the start of the aircraft's ascent.
As the aircraft climbed from 1,168 ft asl to 4,922 ft asl, an increase of 3,754 ft in just 2 minutes, it covered 11 nautical miles. This initial climb phase was followed by a brief level cruise overhead Aldine, Texas, lasting 3 minutes and covering 15 nautical miles. The aircraft then began a more significant climb phase, ascending from 4,959 ft asl to 35,354 ft asl, an increase of 30,396 ft in 21 minutes, covering 153 nautical miles. This was followed by a prolonged level cruise phase, lasting 507 minutes and covering 4,306 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its descent towards its destination.
As the aircraft descended from 35,601 ft asl to 1,363 ft asl, a decrease of 34,238 ft in 20 minutes, it covered 123 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 11 at Minister Pistarini International Airport was initiated from the west, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at 144 kt, slightly above the recommended speed. The touchdown distance was 271 meters, and the runway touchdown position was excessively misaligned by 35.8 meters from the centreline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 6 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 4,620 nautical miles, taking 571 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 83,752 kg of fuel during the journey.
The Boeing 777-300 touched down on runway 11 at SAEZ Minister Pistarini International Airport, demonstrating a good threshold height. The aircraft's approach quality was satisfactory, with a threshold speed of 148 kt, which met the required standards. The touchdown distance of 271 m was also within acceptable limits, indicating a controlled descent. However, the touchdown speed of 144 kt was slightly above the optimal range, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -347 fpm.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's centreline alignment was compromised, with a deviation of 35.8 m from the centreline. This misalignment persisted throughout the rollout phase, with the aircraft remaining 34.3 m off-centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a headwind of 7 kt, did not significantly impact the landing. The crosswind component of 4 kt was minimal, and the wind direction of 129 ° did not pose a major challenge.
The total landing distance of 1,412 m, which accounted for 43% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing performance of the Boeing 777-300 was satisfactory, with a score of 76.7%. While there were some areas for improvement, such as the touchdown speed and centreline alignment, the aircraft demonstrated a good approach quality and controlled touchdown.
