Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,995 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,152 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 07 at KDEN Denver International Airport. The takeoff distance was 9,440 feet, which accounted for 79% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 92°F and winds of 6 knots at 58°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 5 knots. After departing from KDEN, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southeast of the airport and reached an altitude of 30,927 feet above sea level. The climb covered a distance of 148 nautical miles and took 25 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 24,519 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles north of KEEO Meeker Airport. This phase lasted for 379 minutes and covered a distance of 2,695 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 63 miles north of PHLU Kalaupapa Airport. The descent took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 88 nautical miles, with a decrease in altitude of 32,526 feet.
As the aircraft approached its destination, PHNL Daniel K Inouye International Airport, it began its final approach to runway 04R from the southwest. The aircraft was heading at 53.0° and was 4 nautical miles away from the runway at an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown point 759 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 131 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -303 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 24 feet from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 31 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 82°F and winds of 10 knots at 66°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 9 knots. The total landing distance was 4,543 feet, which accounted for 51% of the runway.
Finally, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 2,945 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 451 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 37,565 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at PHNL Daniel K Inouye International Airport, with a score of 89.2%. The final approach to runway 04R was initiated from the southwest, heading 53.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with a threshold speed of 145 knots being maintained. The touchdown point was 759 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the recommended area. However, the touchdown speed of 131 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -303 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a stable and controlled landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 82°F and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 66°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 9 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The runway length of 8,995 feet was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance.
The total landing distance of 4,543 feet was 51% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 31 feet from the centerline, which may require some adjustments during taxiing.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and within the acceptable parameters. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown point accuracy and runway rollout alignment.
