Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,488 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 327 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Commander 114 departed from runway 05 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde, using a take-off roll of 767 m which represented 31 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 73 kt. Ambient conditions were 20 °C with a wind from 222° at 3 kt, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt tail-wind component.
During the climb the aircraft entered a right-hand pattern from runway 05, covering less than 1 nm in 15 seconds. The subsequent right-hand crosswind segment also spanned less than 1 nm in 7 seconds. The downwind turn was 1 nm with an angle to the runway of 134.0°, followed by a downwind leg of less than 1 nm completed in 5 seconds. The base turn covered 1 nm at an angle of 89.6°, and the base leg was again less than 1 nm in 5 seconds. The final turn extended 3 nm and lasted 153 seconds before the aircraft commenced its descent.
The descent phase began on final approach, with the aircraft descending from 477 ft agl to 42 ft agl in 50 seconds, meeting the stabilisation gates criteria.
On final approach to runway 05 the aircraft maintained the local weather conditions of 20 °C, wind 3 kt from 222°, 1 kt cross-wind and 3 kt tail-wind. The threshold speed was slightly below the target at 65 kt.
Touchdown occurred 326 m down the runway at a speed of 54 kt and a smooth vertical rate of minus 133 fpm. The aircraft was offset by 3.3 m from the centreline. With a runway length of 2,488 m, the total landing distance was 485 m, representing 20 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was judged very good.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 7 nm, took 5 (units as given), and consumed 2 kg of fuel.
The aircraft Commander 114 conducted the final approach to runway 05 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde, descending from 477 ft AGL to 42 ft AGL in 50 seconds. The approach was scored on the stabilisation gates. Weather was 20 °C with wind 3 kt from 222°, crosswind 1 kt and tailwind 3 kt.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was a little below target at 65 kt. The aircraft continued the flare and prepared for touchdown.
Touchdown occurred 326 m down the runway at a speed of 54 kt, with a smooth vertical rate of minus 133 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 3.3 m from the centreline. Total landing distance was 485 m, representing 20 % of the 2,488 m runway.
Runway rollout alignment was very good.
To bring the threshold speed fully onto target, a slight increase in approach speed is recommended. Maintaining centreline alignment within a metre will eliminate the 3.3-m deviation observed at touchdown. The overall score of 97.9 % reflects a strong performance.
