Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,261 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,261 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 442 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 27 at GCGM La Gomera Airport. The aircraft, a TBM 850, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 100 knots. The takeoff distance was 326 meters, which accounted for 22% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 269 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead GCGM La Gomera Airport. The climb was steep, with the aircraft ascending from 973 feet above sea level to 2,620 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. This rapid ascent was achieved in a short period of time, demonstrating the aircraft's impressive climb capabilities.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 25 nautical miles. This cruise phase was conducted 5 miles south west of Alajero, a location in the Canary Islands, Spain.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, which started 7 miles north east of GCHI El Hierro Airport. The descent was steep, with the aircraft descending from 2,435 feet above sea level to 958 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. This rapid descent was achieved in a short period of time, demonstrating the aircraft's impressive descent capabilities.
The final approach to runway 16 at GCHI El Hierro Airport was conducted from the north west, with the aircraft heading 152.0 degrees at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 866 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 16, which had a length of 1,261 meters.
The landing was characterized by a touchdown distance of 410 meters, which was good, but the touchdown speed of 73 knots was fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -297 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as at the time of departure, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 1 knot from a direction of 269 degrees.
The total landing distance was 577 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft during the landing roll.
Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 40 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 15 minutes. The aircraft used 40 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at GCHI El Hierro Airport, but the landing was not without some issues. The final approach was made from the north-west, heading 152.0° at 3 nautical miles and 866 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 16, which has a length of 1,261 meters.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing performance. The threshold height at 76 feet agl was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the aircraft was not properly configured for landing. Additionally, the threshold speed was excessively high at 98 knots, which could have put the aircraft at risk of overshooting the runway. On the other hand, the touchdown distance was good at 410 meters, but the touchdown speed was fast at 73 knots, which could have resulted in a higher rate of descent.
The touchdown rate was fair at -297 feet per minute (fpm), which is a moderate rate of descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centreline, which could have affected the aircraft's stability during rollout. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°.
The total landing distance was 577 meters, which is 46% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop quickly after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the TBM 850 aircraft was able to safely touch down on the runway and come to a stop. However, the pilot should take note of the issues with threshold height and speed, and work to improve the landing performance in future flights.
