Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,351 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,326 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 04 at KHOU William P Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas. The takeoff distance was 2,754 feet, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 60°F and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 335°. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead KHOU William P Hobby Airport and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,120 feet above sea level to 30,110 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,990 feet in just 10 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 55 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase of the flight began overhead 73TX Frerich Ranch Airport in Brackettville, Texas, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 57 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 4 miles south of 89TS Carter Ranch Airport in Oakwood, Texas. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 29,420 feet above sea level to 1,850 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,570 feet in 24 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 94 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31R at KDAL Dallas Love Field was made from the southeast, with the aircraft heading 316.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,352 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 31R was characterized by a touchdown point that was 948 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was slightly faster than the target speed. The touchdown rate was also heavy, at -656 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 36 feet from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 48°F and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 0°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 4,604 feet, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 39 feet from the centreline.
The final phase of the flight involved taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 214 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 60 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,348 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KDAL Dallas Love Field, but the landing was not without some issues. The final approach to runway 31R was initiated from the southeast, heading 316.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,352 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 948 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the pilot may have been a bit too far back on the approach.
The touchdown speed of 129 knots was slightly faster than the target speed, which could have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate of -656 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 36 feet from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. The runway length at KDAL Dallas Love Field is 7,351 feet, which is more than sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 4,604 feet, or 63% of the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 48°F and winds of 8 knots at 0°. The crosswind and headwind components were both 6 knots, which is relatively light and should not have significantly impacted the landing. The threshold height at 130 feet agl was excessively over target, but this may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate rather than any issue with the approach.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, it was still a safe and successful operation. The pilot may want to review the approach and landing to identify areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown speed and runway alignment. However, the aircraft's performance and the runway conditions at KDAL Dallas Love Field suggest that the landing was still within acceptable parameters.
