Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 4,990 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,990 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,445 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a TBM 930, then departed from runway 26 at KCLM William R Fairchild International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 405 meters, which was 27% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 77 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 249 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile west of KCLM William R Fairchild International Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,247 feet above sea level to 7,928 feet above sea level, an increase of 6,681 feet, in 7 minutes and covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 11 miles south of WN21 Lawson Airpark, and lasted for 8 minutes, covering a distance of 27 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its first descent, starting 11 miles west of Hoodsport, and descended from 7,623 feet above sea level to 6,854 feet above sea level, a decrease of 770 feet, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 6 miles west of Hoodsport, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its second descent, starting 8 miles west of Hoodsport, and descended from 6,714 feet above sea level to 2,109 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,605 feet, in 6 minutes and covering a distance of 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at KSHN Sanderson Field was made from the southwest, with a heading of 67.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 1,807 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 05 was characterized by a touchdown point that was 277 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 73 knots, which was slightly fast. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -729 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 17.1 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 40 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 10 knots. The total landing distance was 835 meters, which was 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 15.1 meters from the centerline.
The flight concluded with a taxiing period from the runway to the parking, which took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 66 nautical miles, taking 39 minutes, and the aircraft used 142 kilograms of fuel.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at KSHN Sanderson Field, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 67.0° at 2 nautical miles and 1,807 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 05, which has a length of 1,521 meters.
However, the landing was not perfectly executed. The threshold height at 118 feet agl was excessively over target, indicating that the aircraft descended too quickly during the final approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was slightly above target at 93 knots, which may have contributed to the issues with the landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was 73 knots, which was a little fast. This excessive speed resulted in a very heavy touchdown rate of -729 feet per minute (fpm). Furthermore, the touchdown point was 277 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft landed too far down the runway.
The runway touchdown position was also significantly misaligned by 17.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or headwind conditions. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were a temperature of 7°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 40°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots.
The total landing distance was 835 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining to stop safely. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 15.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the pilot's difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout.
Overall, while the TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at KSHN Sanderson Field, the landing was not perfectly executed, and there were several issues that need to be addressed to improve the safety and efficiency of future landings.
