Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,452 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 384 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 02 at SGAS Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,277 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it started its enroute climb 1 mile south east of Mariano Roque Alonso. The climb began at an altitude of 1,266 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 37,922 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,656 feet. This climb took 39 minutes and covered a distance of 246 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 6 miles east of SAPY Itá Caabó Airport Mercedes and lasted for 196 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,455 nautical miles. Following the cruise, the enroute descent began 66 miles east of SAUV Estancia Cullen South Airport Rio Grande. The descent took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 135 nautical miles, with the aircraft decreasing its altitude from 37,733 feet above sea level to 1,543 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 25 at SAWH Malvinas Argentinas Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 266.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,453 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 25, which had a length of 2,452 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 143 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 386 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -228 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at 240 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 856 meters, which accounted for 35% of the runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,843 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 255 minutes. The aircraft used 13,471 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at SAWH Malvinas Argentinas Airport, showcasing a high level of precision and control. The final approach to runway 25 was executed from the east, with the aircraft heading 266.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,453 feet above ground level (agl). This approach was marked by a high success rate, with a score of 99.6%.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 132 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. However, the touchdown distance of 386 meters was deemed good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and precision throughout the landing process. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to navigate the aircraft accurately.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from 240°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 9 knots, which the pilot effectively managed during the landing. The total landing distance of 856 meters was 35% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot maintained control and precision throughout the landing process.
The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to navigate the aircraft accurately and maintain control during the landing process. Overall, the landing was marked by a high level of precision and control, with the pilot successfully navigating the aircraft to a safe touchdown on the runway.
