Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,403 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 506 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 24 at LGRP Diagoras Airport in Rhodes, Greece. The takeoff distance was 1,036 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 163 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots blowing from a direction of 289 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead LGRP Diagoras Airport and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,024 feet above sea level to 29,776 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,752 feet in 11 minutes and covering a distance of 59 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 2 miles west of Kefalos, Greece, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 48 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 14 miles north of Amorgos, Greece, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 29,784 feet above sea level to 23,989 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,795 feet in 7 minutes and covering a distance of 45 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which started 7 miles southeast of LGSO Syros Airport on Syros Island, Greece, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 4 miles southwest of Ano Syros, Greece, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 23,778 feet above sea level to 1,541 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,237 feet in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 53 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03R at LGAV Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport was made from the southwest, with the aircraft heading 37.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,253 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 03R, which had a length of 3,403 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 129 knots.
The touchdown point was 85 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 126 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -358 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots blowing from a direction of 30 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 10 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,132 meters, which accounted for 33% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.5 meters from the centerline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 223 nautical miles, and the flight took 56 minutes, using 2,133 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 03R at LGAV Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. The overall performance of the landing achieved a score of 92.8% which indicates a satisfactory outcome. The final approach was carried out from the southwest at a heading of 37.0 °, situated at 4 nautical miles and 1,253 feet above ground level.
The key aspects of the landing were met with moderate results. The touchdown was noted for having a slightly above-target threshold speed of 129 kt. Although not ideal, it seems to have been manageable during the descent. This situation, coupled with a satisfactory threshold height and good local weather with a temperature of 14 °C and a headwind of 10 kt, allowed for a relatively smooth landing procedure.
However, there were still several areas where the landing could be improved. Specifically, the touchdown point was 85 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a speed at touchdown at 126 kt which is a little too fast according to standard procedures. Furthermore, the firm touchdown rate of -358 fpm was slightly above standard. As for alignment, the actual touchdown position was somewhat off-centerline by 7.4 meters, and even more so during the rollout by 11.5 meters from the centerline. These minor but notable discrepancies would still make the landing suitable yet room for refinement.
In summary, an Airbus A320 safely landed at LGAV Athens at 92.8%, demonstrating generally solid execution of standard landing procedures, although with few areas for improvement that will likely be targeted for the next landing attempt.
