MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,192 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 448 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, a British Aerospace 146-200, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KSBD San Bernardino International Airport. This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24, and the aircraft lifted off after a takeoff distance of 726 meters, which was 24% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 114 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 18 knots at 39 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a tailwind of 15 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead KSBD San Bernardino International Airport, where it climbed from 2,119 feet above sea level to 6,309 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,189 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile west of Fontana, California, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 38 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile northeast of Echo Park, California, where it descended from 6,350 feet above sea level to 2,835 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,515 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another enroute climb, starting 2 miles south of Encino, California, where it climbed from 2,822 feet above sea level to 7,902 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,081 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then started overhead KWHP Whiteman Airport Pacoima, California, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 35 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 6 miles east of KLAT Lancaster Airport Lancaster, California, where it descended from 7,463 feet above sea level to 4,110 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,353 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 24 at KWJF General William J Fox Airfield, heading 255.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 1,732 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 24, which had a length of 2,192 meters. The threshold height at 57 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 115 knots. The touchdown point was 125 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 105 knots, which was good, and a touchdown rate of -96 feet per minute, which was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots at 280 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The total landing distance was 1,246 meters, which was 57% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 122 nautical miles, taking 38 minutes, and the aircraft used 1 kilogram of fuel.
The British Aerospace 146-200 aircraft successfully landed at KWJF General William J Fox Airfield, achieving a score of 96.4%. The final approach to runway 24 was conducted from the east, heading 255.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,732 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the touchdown point located 125 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 105 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -96 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -5°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 280°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 8 knots, which the pilot successfully managed during the landing.
The aircraft's performance on the runway was also noteworthy, with a total landing distance of 1,246 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway length. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled transition from the landing to the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases. The pilot's skills and experience were evident in the smooth and controlled manner in which the aircraft was brought to a stop on the runway.
