Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,401 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,401 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 565 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 14 at LZTR Trnava Airfield, a small airfield in Trnava, Slovakia. The TBM 850 aircraft accelerated down the runway, covering a takeoff distance of 239 meters, which is 20% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 94 knots, marking the beginning of the aircraft's ascent into the sky.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airfield, it encountered local weather conditions of 1°C temperature and a gentle wind of 2 knots from a direction of 108 degrees. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, providing a favorable condition for takeoff. The enroute climb started overhead LZTR Trnava Airfield Boleráz, where the aircraft began its ascent from an altitude of 1,041 feet above sea level to 3,048 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,008 feet in just 2 minutes. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 3 nautical miles.
After reaching the desired cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 8 minutes and covered a distance of 23 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 2 miles south east of Smolenice, another location in Trnava, Slovakia.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 04 at LZHL Holič Airfield, a small airfield in Holič, Slovakia. The approach was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading 45.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,230 feet above ground level at this point.
The landing on runway 04 was executed with a threshold height that was excessively above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 87 knots. The touchdown point was 99 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 61 knots, which was considered good. However, the touchdown rate was heavy at -619 feet per minute, indicating a steeper-than-desired descent. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also excellent.
The total landing distance was 701 meters, which is 50% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were similar to those at takeoff, with a temperature of 1°C and a wind of 2 knots from a direction of 179 degrees. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the tailwind component was also 2 knots, providing a challenging condition for landing.
In conclusion, the flight was a successful one, with the aircraft completing a total distance of 31 nautical miles in 19 minutes, using 54 kilograms of fuel in the process. The flight crew demonstrated good piloting skills, navigating the aircraft through various weather conditions and executing a safe and controlled landing.
The TBM 850 aircraft successfully landed at LZHL Holič Airfield, achieving a score of 77.5%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 45.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,230 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 04, which has a length of 1,401 meters.
Upon analysis, it was noted that the threshold height at 102 feet agl was excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach. However, the threshold speed of 87 knots was within the acceptable range, demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft's descent. The touchdown point was 99 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 61 knots was also within the acceptable range, indicating that the pilot maintained control and managed the aircraft's speed effectively during the landing. However, the touchdown rate of -619 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down with a slightly higher rate of descent than desired. This could be attributed to the pilot's decision to prioritize a shorter landing distance over a smoother touchdown.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach to the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 179°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 2 knots, which is relatively minimal and should not have significantly impacted the landing.
The total landing distance of 701 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively short landing distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to manage the aircraft's speed and descent effectively, resulting in a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and stability during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, while there were some minor deviations during the landing, the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, resulting in a successful landing at LZHL Holič Airfield.
