Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 3,841 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 3,841 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 877 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 03 at L41 Marble Canyon, where the aircraft took off after covering 826 feet, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 45 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 58 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 16 knots coming from a direction of 272 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 13 knots and a tailwind of 10 knots.
After departing from L41 Marble Canyon, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. This phase began overhead the airport, allowing the aircraft to reach a steady cruising altitude.
The final approach to runway 22 at AZ03 Cliff Dwellers Lodge Airport was initiated from the north-east, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 223.0 degrees. At this point, the aircraft was 4 nautical miles away from the runway and at an altitude of 12 feet above ground level.
Upon landing on runway 22, the aircraft touched down after covering a distance of 873 feet, which was considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 64 knots was slightly faster than expected. The touchdown rate was perfect at 21 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 20 feet. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 56 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 15 knots coming from a direction of 275 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 1,335 feet, which accounted for 35% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft during the landing phase. The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight used 4 pounds of fuel.
The aircraft, identified as Sirius, successfully landed at AZ03 Cliff Dwellers Lodge Airport, with a final approach from the north east. The aircraft was at an altitude of 12 feet above ground level (agl) and 4 nautical miles from the runway when it began its descent. The heading of 223.0° was maintained throughout the approach, and the aircraft touched down on runway 22, which has a length of 3,841 feet.
The threshold height was reported as good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 77 knots, which may have been a result of the aircraft's approach configuration or the pilot's decision-making. The touchdown distance of 873 feet was within acceptable limits, but the touchdown speed of 64 knots was faster than recommended.
The touchdown rate of 21 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown smoothly. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 20 feet from the centreline, which may have been a result of the pilot's alignment or the aircraft's directional control.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 56°F and winds of 15 knots from 275°. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. These conditions may have affected the aircraft's approach and landing, particularly in terms of directional control and speed management.
The total landing distance of 1,335 feet was 35% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of speed management and alignment.
