Improve the rollout
Ground control varies with speed, full authority at walking pace, progressively reducing as groundspeed rises. The aircraft becomes twitchy at any speed, every small pedal input swings the nose, which can encourage large-amplitude leg inputs that no real aircraft would accept.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 526 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 526 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 650 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied to runway 03 at EGAI Yorkshire Gliding Club and commenced the departure roll. Take-off was achieved after a ground run of 357 m, representing 47 % of the available runway, with liftoff attained at 63 kt. Ambient conditions were 13 °C with a wind from 208° at 3 kt; cross-wind was nil and a tail-wind component of 3 kt was present.
Climb began approximately one mile north-east of EGAI Angram Grange. The Cessna 172 ascended from 1,805 ft asl to 7,003 ft asl, a gain of 5,198 ft, in six minutes while covering 11 nm.
Level cruise was established overhead Easingwold in North Yorkshire. The aircraft maintained this altitude for five minutes, traversing eight nautical miles before commencing descent.
Descent was initiated two miles west of Nether Poppleton, City of York. Altitude was reduced from 6,769 ft asl to 1,389 ft asl, a loss of 5,381 ft, over a period of thirteen minutes and a distance of 18 nm.
The final approach to runway 03 at EGHZ Kirkbymoorside was flown from the south-west on a heading of 30.0°, intercepting the approach at four nautical miles out and 1,275 ft agl.
Landing was executed on runway 03, whose length is 526 m. The threshold speed was 63 kt; however, touchdown occurred beyond 75 % of the runway, with a speed of 60 kt that was slightly fast. The aircraft settled at a vertical speed of minus 80 fpm, and runway alignment was perfect. Local weather at the aerodrome was 15 °C with a wind from 208° at 3 kt, no cross-wind and a 3 kt tail-wind. The total landing distance recorded was 799 m, equivalent to 152 % of the runway.
Runway rollout continued with perfect alignment, bringing the aircraft to a stop well within the available runway length.
In total the flight covered 43 nm, required 28 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 8 kg of fuel.
The Cessna 172 on a final approach to runway 03 at EGHZ Kirkbymoorside was aligned on a heading of 30.0° from the south-west, 4 nm out and 1,275 ft AGL. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
Runway 03 measures 526 m and the threshold height was reported as good. Threshold speed was good at 63 kt. The aircraft touched down using more than 75 % of the available runway, indicating an excessively long touchdown point, and the touchdown speed of 60 kt was a little fast. Touchdown rate was excellent at minus 80 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Local weather was 15 °C, wind 3 kt from 208°, with 0 kt crosswind and 3 kt tailwind.
Total landing distance was 799 m, representing 152 % of the runway length, and the aircraft remained aligned with the centreline throughout touchdown.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Reduce the touchdown point to land nearer the 300 m aim point to conserve runway length, and aim for a touchdown speed closer to the target VREF to avoid the slight excess. These adjustments will improve the landing distance while maintaining the good alignment already demonstrated.
