Flight Score
Improve the touchdown
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,774 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,774 m of the 3,064 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 555 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 27 at VABB Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, a movement that required 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 27, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 172 kt. The takeoff distance recorded was 1,599 m, representing 54 % of the runway length. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 31 °C, wind 8 kt from 260°, with a 1 kt cross-wind component and an 8 kt head-wind.
The climb phase commenced overhead VAJJ Juhu Aerodrome, Mumbai, with the airplane climbing from 1,051 ft asl to 33,194 ft asl. This altitude gain of 32,144 ft was achieved in 33 minutes while covering 229 nm.
Level cruise began when the aircraft passed over Sinquerim, Goa, and persisted for 90 minutes, during which 710 nm were flown.
Descent started 59 miles east of Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atholhu, Maldives. The flight descended from 33,254 ft asl to 1,304 ft asl, a loss of 31,950 ft in 23 minutes, and traversed 109 nm.
On final approach to runway 36 at VRMM Malé International Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,343 ft agl to 72 ft agl in 90 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 36, whose length is 3,064 m, occurred with a threshold height of 58 ft agl slightly above target and a threshold speed of 155 kt. The touchdown point was 155 m beyond the touchdown zone, the touchdown speed measured 151 kt, and the touchdown rate was hard at minus 413 fpm. The touchdown location was offset by 7.5 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was a temperature of 29 °C, wind 12 kt from 270°, with a 12 kt cross-wind and no head-wind.
The total landing distance was 1,709 m, equivalent to 56 % of the runway, and the runway rollout alignment was judged very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 1,056 nm, took 157, and consumed 8,418 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 conducted a stabilised approach to runway 36 at VRMM Malé International Airport, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits as assessed at the 1,000 ft gate. The final descent progressed from 1,343 ft agl to 72 ft agl over 90 seconds, satisfying the stabilisation-gate criteria.
During the threshold and flare phase the aircraft crossed the runway threshold at a height of 58 ft agl, which was slightly above the target, and entered the flare with a threshold speed of 155 kt, described as good. The runway length is 3,064 m.
Touchdown occurred 155 m beyond the designated touchdown zone with a speed of 151 kt, noted as a little fast, and the aircraft experienced a hard touchdown rate of minus 413 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned, being 7.5 m off the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,709 m, representing 56 % of the runway, and the runway-rollout alignment was very good.
To refine future performances, attention should be given to reducing touchdown speed toward the target to lessen the hard rate of minus 413 fpm, and to tightening the flare to bring the touchdown point closer to the intended zone while maintaining centreline alignment.
