Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,025 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,025 ft of the 8,972 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,634 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 18L at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The takeoff distance was 4,807 feet, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 44 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 149 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of Aalsmeerderbrug in the Netherlands. The climb took 25 minutes and covered a distance of 157 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,051 feet above sea level to 36,531 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead Neuville-Saint-Amand in France. This phase lasted for 103 minutes and covered a distance of 773 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile east of Villanueva de la Reina in Spain. The descent took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 84 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 36,899 feet above sea level to 1,316 feet.
The final approach to runway 12 at LEMG Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport was made from the northwest, with a heading of 117.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,266 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown point 1,265 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 126 knots, which was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate was -173 feet per minute, indicating a smooth landing. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 110 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 4,756 feet, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,024 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 167 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 15,251 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, achieving a high score of 94.7%. The final approach to runway 12 was conducted from the north-west, with a heading of 117.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots. The touchdown point was located 1,265 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance. The touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -173 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 55°F and a gentle wind of 2 knots from a direction of 110°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a slight headwind of 2 knots, which did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance of 4,756 feet was 53% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This indicates that the pilot's approach and landing technique were effective in minimizing the landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of landing.
Overall, the landing was executed smoothly and safely, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a short distance of the runway threshold. The high score achieved by the pilot reflects their expertise and professionalism in conducting a successful landing.
