Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,569 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,569 m of the 3,026 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 525 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,227 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -2°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 40°.
As the aircraft climbed out of Munich Airport, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile south east of the airport. The climb took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 103 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,482 feet above sea level to 34,729 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,247 feet. The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 1 mile north east of Drahonice, a town in the Jihocesky kraj region of the Czech Republic. This cruise phase lasted for 30 minutes and covered a distance of 205 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began overhead Ozarow, a town in the Wojewodztwo Lodzkie region of Poland. The descent took 25 minutes and covered a distance of 108 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,372 feet above sea level to 2,848 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,523 feet. Following the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile north west of Czaplinek, a town in the Masovian Voivodeship region of Poland. This cruise phase lasted for just 3 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 33 at EPWA Warsaw Chopin Airport was made from the south east, with a heading of 332.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 33, which had a length of 3,026 meters. The threshold height at 76 feet above ground level was well above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 105 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -274 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 0°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots at 280°. The crosswind was 9 knots, and the headwind was 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,484 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 434 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 95 minutes. The aircraft used 4,478 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at EPWA Warsaw Chopin Airport, but with some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south east, heading 332.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 33, which has a length of 3,026 meters.
The threshold height at 76 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than expected when reaching the runway threshold. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 139 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was slightly faster than desired when reaching the threshold. The touchdown point was 105 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 133 knots was a little fast, indicating that the aircraft was not fully slowed down before touching down. However, the touchdown rate of -274 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft was not experiencing excessive deceleration. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.1 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments to the aircraft's alignment during future landings.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 0°C, with a wind speed of 11 knots from 280°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight deviations from the ideal landing parameters.
The total landing distance of 1,484 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a relatively normal value. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, but with some minor areas for improvement.
