Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: no landing flap set and wings not level.

Side view — the last 915 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 915 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 306 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from Reichelsheim Airfield, EDFB, commenced with a roll on runway 18. The aircraft, a Bonanza G36, accelerated to liftoff speed of 90 kt, achieving lift-off in a distance of 388 meters, which represented 32% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 13 °C, with a wind of 16 kt blowing from 199 °, resulting in a 6 kt crosswind and a 15 kt headwind.
Following departure, the aircraft transitioned into a level cruise, commencing 1 mile east of Nidderau, Hessen, Germany. This phase of flight lasted 5 minutes and covered a distance of 12 nm. Subsequently, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 28 at Hanau Army Air Field, ETID, from the east, tracking a heading of 280.0 ° at 1 nm and 335 ft above ground level. The landing was executed on the 915-meter runway, with a threshold height that was satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly higher than optimal at 94 kt.
The touchdown distance was satisfactory at 304 meters, but the touchdown speed of 76 kt was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -487 fpm. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.0 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 672 meters, representing 73% of the available runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.1 meters from the centreline. The total flight distance was 19 nm, with a flight time of 9 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 6 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Bonanza G36 touched down on runway 28 at ETID Hanau Army Air Field, a 915-meter long runway, after a final approach from the east at 280.0°. The aircraft was at 1 nautical mile and 335 feet above ground level (agl) at the start of the approach. The approach quality was good, with a satisfactory threshold height. However, the threshold speed was slightly too high at 94 knots, indicating a potential for a longer landing roll.
The touchdown characteristics were somewhat compromised, with a touchdown speed of 76 knots, which was a little fast, and a hard touchdown rate of -487 feet per minute (fpm). The touchdown distance of 304 meters was good, but the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.0 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12°C and a wind of 19 knots at 197°, contributed to a 19-knot crosswind and a 2-knot headwind. The total landing distance of 672 meters was 73% of the runway length.
The rollout phase was also slightly compromised, with the aircraft rolling out 9.1 meters off-centreline. Despite these minor issues, the overall landing performance was satisfactory, earning a score of 85.2%. The pilot's ability to maintain control and navigate the aircraft safely through the landing phase was demonstrated, although there is room for improvement in terms of speed management and alignment.
