Improve the taxi
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,494 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 308 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 35 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,404 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it started its enroute climb 2 miles northwest of Moreira, located in the Distrito do Porto region of Portugal. The climb began at an altitude of 1,162 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 32,195 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,033 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 174 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 17 miles north of Tapia de Casariego, located in the Principality of Asturias, Spain. This phase of the flight lasted for 125 minutes, covering a distance of 926 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile north of Vrabce, located in the Jihocesky kraj region of the Czech Republic. The descent from 32,215 feet above sea level to 1,857 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,357 feet in 20 minutes, covered a distance of 105 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 29 at LOWW Vienna International Airport was made from the southeast, heading 296.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,262 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 29 was successful, with a runway length of 3,494 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 145 knots. The touchdown distance was 311 meters, which was 39% of the runway. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 141 knots, but the touchdown rate was firm at -308 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 300 degrees. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the headwind was 6 knots. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,212 nautical miles, taking 179 minutes, and the aircraft used 8,821 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Vienna International Airport (LOWW) on runway 29, achieving a high score of 99.1%. The final approach was conducted from the southeast, heading 296.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a precise and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 145 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 311 meters was also satisfactory, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown.
However, the touchdown speed of 141 knots was slightly faster than the recommended speed, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate of -308 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and a gentle headwind of 6 knots from a direction of 300°. The crosswind component was negligible, with a speed of 0 knots. These conditions contributed to a smooth and controlled landing.
The total landing distance of 1,366 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated excellent skills and control during the final approach and touchdown phases. The high score of 99.1% reflects the precision and control exhibited during the landing.
