Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,216 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 660 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an EasyJet FWB, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Düsseldorf Airport, taking approximately 5 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 23L, with the aircraft taking off after covering 48% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,142 meters, and the liftoff speed was 152 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 0°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 132°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was negligible. The enroute climb started overhead Düsseldorf Airport, with the aircraft ascending from an altitude of 1,134 feet above sea level to 27,680 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,546 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 69 nautical miles.
After reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 15 nautical miles, before starting its descent. The enroute descent began 1 mile northwest of Alfhausen, Germany, and took 26 minutes to complete, during which the aircraft descended from 27,665 feet above sea level to 1,333 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,332 feet. The descent covered a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 15 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 153.0° at an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,216 meters, and the threshold height was slightly above the target height. The threshold speed was 135 knots, and the touchdown point was 252 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 131 knots and a smooth touchdown rate of -138 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also excellent. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 1°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 140°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,232 meters, covering 38% of the runway's length.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 2 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 195 nautical miles, taking 53 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,770 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as FWB EasyJet, successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport on runway 15. The final approach was initiated from the north-west, with the aircraft heading 153.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed with a high degree of precision, as evident from the very good runway touchdown alignment.
The aircraft touched down 252 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance considering the runway length of 3,216 meters. The touchdown speed was 131 knots, which is slightly below the target threshold speed of 135 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -138 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled and stable approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 140°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 6 knots, which likely contributed to the smooth touchdown and rollout. The total landing distance was 1,232 meters, which is approximately 38% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance, with the runway rollout alignment being very good.
Overall, the landing was executed with a high degree of precision and control, with the aircraft touching down smoothly and coming to a stop within a safe distance from the runway threshold. The pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were evident in the successful execution of the landing, despite the challenging weather conditions.
