MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,214 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 325 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a quick taxi from the parking area to the runway, taking less than a minute and covering a distance of less than a nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 16 at Zürich Airport (LSZH), with a takeoff distance of 438 meters, which was 14% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 63 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Zürich Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 0 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Rumlang, a town in the Kanton Zurich region of Switzerland, where the aircraft climbed from 1,789 feet above sea level to 2,085 feet, an increase of 296 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The enroute level cruise then began overhead Zuerich (Kreis 11) / Seebach, also in the Kanton Zurich region, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent from 2,508 feet above sea level to 2,040 feet, a decrease of 468 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The descent started overhead Schlieren / Zentrum, another town in the Kanton Zurich region.
The enroute level cruise then resumed overhead Dietikon, a town in the Kanton Zurich region, and lasted for 31 minutes, covering a distance of 18 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 22 at Emmen Air Base (LSME) was made from the north-east, heading 226.0 degrees, at 1 nautical mile and 498 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 22 at Emmen Air Base was successful, with a touchdown distance of 301 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 51 knots, which was a little below the target speed. However, the touchdown rate was heavy at -637 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 15°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 523 meters, which was 24% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 17.2 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 27 nautical miles, taking 43 minutes, and the aircraft used 15 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at LSME Emmen Air Base, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 226.0° at 1 nm and 498 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 22, which has a length of 2,214 meters.
The threshold height at 112 ft agl was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach. However, the threshold speed of 51 kt was slightly below the target, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to maintain a stable approach speed. The touchdown distance of 301 meters was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 51 kt was also good.
Despite the good touchdown speed, the touchdown rate was heavy at -637 fpm, which may indicate that the pilot could have used a more gradual descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.9 meters from the centreline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll.
The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 kt at 270°. The crosswind and headwind components were both 1 kt, which suggests that the aircraft was not significantly affected by wind during the landing.
The total landing distance of 523 meters was 24% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 17.2 meters from the centreline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the landing roll or during the taxiing process.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of maintaining a stable approach speed and descent rate. The pilot could also work on improving the alignment of the aircraft during the landing roll and taxiing process.
