Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: six checks at the point nearest 500 ft above the runway after the base turn. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 317 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Cotswold Airport (EGBP), the Sirius aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 26, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 56 kt in a distance of 210 m, which accounted for 13% of the runway's length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 269°. The aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a smooth transition from the ground to the air.
As the aircraft entered the traffic pattern, it proceeded to the left, following a standard left-hand pattern entry from runway 26. The subsequent turns and legs of the pattern were executed efficiently, with the downwind turn requiring a distance of 1 nm and an angle of 76.2° to the runway. The downwind leg itself covered a distance of 2 nm in 75 seconds, while the base leg and final turn were completed in 40 and 20 seconds, respectively. The aircraft's approach to runway 26 from the east, at a heading of 256.0° and an altitude of 132 ft, was characterized by a stable and controlled descent.
The landing itself was successful, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 39 kt and a distance of 315 m. The touchdown rate was a commendable 21 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The aircraft's performance was consistent with the local weather conditions, which remained unchanged throughout the flight. With a total flight distance of 5 nm and a fuel consumption of 0 kg, the Sirius aircraft demonstrated its efficiency and reliability.
The final approach to runway 26 at EGBP Cotswold Airport from the east was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 256.0° at 0 nm and 132 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height achieved, allowing the pilot to maintain a stable and controlled descent. The threshold speed was also well-managed, reaching 53 kt as the aircraft touched down on the runway.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft displayed good characteristics, with a touchdown distance of 315 m and a speed of 39 kt. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with a perfect rate of 21 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway centerline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment and coming to a stop smoothly. The overall score for the landing was 95.3%, a testament to the pilot's skill and experience. The combination of good approach quality, precise touchdown characteristics, and smooth rollout phase made for a highly successful landing.
