See Departure Roll
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,160 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 433 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Orangeburg Municipal Airport, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 23, with the aircraft taking off after covering 36% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 486 meters, and the liftoff speed was 101 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 22°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 200°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft climbed from an initial altitude of 1,207 feet above sea level to 16,544 feet, an increase of 15,337 feet, in just 10 minutes while covering 30 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles northeast of Eastover, South Carolina. This phase lasted for 34 minutes and covered a distance of 166 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 5 miles north of the Annie Penn Hospital Heliport in Reidsville, North Carolina. The descent from 15,895 feet to 4,017 feet took 7 minutes and covered 35 nautical miles.
The aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time starting overhead Altavista, Virginia, and lasting for 2 minutes while covering 7 nautical miles. The final descent phase began 5 miles south of Timberlake, Virginia, and took the aircraft from 3,490 feet to 1,925 feet in just 2 minutes while covering 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a brief level cruise phase, starting 1 mile south of Lynchburg Regional Airport, and lasting for 2 minutes while covering 3 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 22 at Lynchburg Regional Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 206.0° at an altitude of 544 feet above ground level and a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 2,160 meters, and the threshold height was good. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 102 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 434 meters, and the touchdown speed was 80 knots, which was considered fast. The touchdown rate was excellent at -68 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 200°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 639 meters, which accounted for 30% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in approximately 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 249 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 65 minutes. The aircraft used 61 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at KLYH Lynchburg Regional Airport - Preston Glenn Field, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its landing maneuver. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 206.0° at 1 nm and 544 ft above ground level (agl), indicating a precise and controlled descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a distance of 434 meters, which is considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 80 kt was slightly faster than ideal, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -68 fpm was excellent, indicating a controlled and stable descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained a consistent and accurate heading during the final approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20°C and a headwind of 6 kt, were favorable for the landing, and the crosswind component was minimal at 1 kt.
The total landing distance of 639 meters was 30% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop in a safe and controlled manner.
Overall, the Vision Jet aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency in its landing maneuver, with a score of 93.6%. The pilot's ability to maintain a precise and controlled descent, combined with a good touchdown distance and a perfect runway rollout alignment, suggests a high level of skill and experience.
