Departure
Reduce climb power to bring speed back to 169 kt and hold it there.
What happened: Climb speed was 37 kt fast at 206 kt during the climb.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: 169 kt in the climb
Arrival
Add power sooner on final to hold 124 kt by the stabilisation gate, not just at the threshold.
What happened: The approach was slow at the stabilisation gate, and the aircraft carried that deficit all the way to the threshold, still 24 kt below VREF; arriving that slow usually leaves little energy to cushion the flare, as it did here with a touchdown rate of 364 fpm.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator: 124 kt at the threshold
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 500 ft gate: speed 6 kt SLOW on the reference speed of 124 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 4,985 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,985 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 187 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 750 Citation X taxied from the parking area to the departure runway in 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
The aircraft commenced its departure roll on runway 11 at KBMI Central Illinois Regional Airport, Bloomington-Normal, using 2,918 ft of runway (45 % of the available length). Liftoff was achieved at 139 kt. Ambient conditions were 63 °F with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt crosswind component and a 2 kt tailwind.
Climb began 1 mile east of KBMI, with the airplane accelerating from 1,824 ft asl to 15,009 ft asl, an altitude gain of 13,185 ft in 6 minutes while covering 30 nm.
The first en-route level cruise started 4 nm southwest of 1C1 Paxton, Illinois, and persisted for 28 minutes, during which 203 nm were flown.
Descent was initiated 2 nm east of Yellow Springs, Ohio, descending from 15,006 ft asl to 2,771 ft asl, a loss of 12,235 ft in 8 minutes over a distance of 43 nm.
A second level cruise segment began 2 nm south of KLCK Rickenbacker International Airport, Columbus, Ohio, lasting 2 minutes and covering 8 nm.
For the final approach to runway 10 at KLHQ Fairfield County Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,299 ft agl to 19 ft agl in 106 seconds and met the stabilisation gate criteria.
Landing on runway 10 at KLHQ was executed with a threshold speed of 100 kt, a touchdown speed of 98 kt, and a touchdown distance of 183 ft. The aircraft touched down at a rate of minus 365 fpm, aligned well with the runway centreline, and the total landing distance recorded was 1,796 ft (36 % of the runway). Weather at the time was 59 °F with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, no crosswind and a 2 kt tailwind.
Runway rollout proceeded with very good alignment, completing the landing phase without deviation.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 290 nm, required 50 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 165 lb of fuel.
The final approach to runway 10 at KLHQ was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The aircraft descended from 1,299 ft AGL to 19 ft AGL in 106 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates.
At the threshold the speed was a little below target at 100 kt. Touchdown distance was good at 183 ft and touchdown speed was good at 98 kt. The touchdown rate was firm at minus 365 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was very good.
Touchdown occurred with a good threshold height, the aircraft maintaining the very good alignment and the recorded speed and distance as noted above.
Rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,796 ft, representing 36 % of the 4,985-ft runway, and runway rollout alignment remained very good.
The 92.1 % score reflects solid performance; fine-tuning the approach to achieve the target threshold speed of 100 kt and moderating the descent to reduce the firm -365 fpm touchdown rate will bring the landing even closer to optimal parameters.
