Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed below the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,152 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,934 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at KFSD Sioux Falls Regional Airport / Joe Foss Field, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 33, with a takeoff distance of 2,044 feet, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 97 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 50°F and winds of 6 knots at 280°. The crosswind was 5 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots. After departing from KFSD, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and continued to an altitude of 28,694 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 54 nautical miles and took 18 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 26,265 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 80 minutes and covered a distance of 308 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 5 miles northwest of Tabor, South Dakota. After the level cruise, the aircraft began its enroute descent, which started 21 miles south of WY09 Sherwin Field Number 1 Airport in Newcastle, Wyoming. The descent took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 72 nautical miles, with a decrease in altitude of 23,307 feet.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 21 at KCPR Casper-Natrona County International Airport. The approach was made from the northeast, with a heading of 224.0°, and took place 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,101 feet above ground level at this point.
The landing took place on runway 21, which had a length of 10,152 feet. The threshold height was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was excessively high at 94 knots. The touchdown point was 522 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 78 knots, which was fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -157 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 24 feet from the centreline.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 441 nautical miles, and the flight took 126 minutes. The aircraft used 894 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet aircraft has successfully landed at KCPR Casper-Natrona County International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 224.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,101 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 522 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation. The touchdown speed of 78 knots was also higher than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have applied the brakes too late or not aggressively enough. However, the touchdown rate of -157 feet per minute (fpm) was satisfactory, indicating a controlled descent.
The threshold height at 94 feet agl was significantly above the target, suggesting that the pilot may have descended too slowly or not aggressively enough during the final approach. Additionally, the threshold speed of 94 knots was excessively high, indicating that the pilot may have been too slow to respond to the situation.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 24 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading or a miscalculation of the wind direction. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 35°F and a wind speed of 6 knots at 310°.
The total landing distance of 3,649 feet was 36% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 39 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading or a miscalculation of the wind direction.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but with some notable deviations from the ideal parameters. The pilot may need to review and refine their approach and landing techniques to improve their performance.
