Track the centreline
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 3.5° off, against a 1° limit and wings 25° of bank, against a 10° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,935 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,935 m of the 2,698 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,207 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The TBM 850 taxied to runway 22 at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport and commenced the departure roll, achieving a takeoff distance of 699 m (28 % of the runway) and lifting off at 98 kt. Local conditions were 16 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind.
Climb began approximately 1 mile south-west of RJTT, where the aircraft rose from 974 ft asl to 3 673 ft asl, an increase of 2 699 ft in 2 minutes while covering 4 nm.
The first level cruise segment started 2 miles south of Kawasaki and continued for 16 minutes, during which 64 nm were flown.
Descent commenced 2 miles east of RJA3 Ryugasaki, descending from 4 472 ft asl to 3 897 ft asl, a loss of 575 ft in 2 minutes over a distance of 6 nm.
A second cruise phase originated 4 miles east of Inashiki, lasting 2 minutes and covering 6 nm.
The next descent started 7 miles south of RJAH Ibaraki Airport / JASDF Hyakuri Air Base Omitama, dropping from 3 207 ft asl to 541 ft asl, a reduction of 2 666 ft in 4 minutes across 11 nm.
During final approach to runway 21L at RJAH, the aircraft descended from 771 ft agl to 91 ft agl in 60 seconds and successfully scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 21L, whose length is 2 698 m, occurred with a threshold height of 82 ft agl that was significantly above target and a threshold speed of 95 kt slightly above target. Touchdown was recorded 773 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 81 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 54 fpm and perfect runway-alignment. Local weather was 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 2 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt head-wind. The total landing distance measured 1 836 m (68 % of the runway).
The rollout proceeded with very good alignment along the runway centreline.
Taxi-in to the parking area required 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 96 nm, lasted 30 minutes and consumed 86 kg of fuel.
The TBM 850 completed a final approach to runway 21L at RJAH Ibaraki Airport / JASDF Hyakuri Air Base, descending from 771 ft agl to 91 ft agl in 60 seconds and receiving a score on the stabilisation gates; the overall landing score was 84.0 %.
At the threshold the aircraft was 82 ft agl, which was significantly above the target height, and the threshold speed was 95 kt, slightly above the target.
Touchdown occurred 773 m beyond the designated touchdown zone; the aircraft touched down at 81 kt, a good speed, with an excellent vertical rate of minus 54 fpm and perfect runway alignment.
The rollout covered 1 836 m, representing 68 % of the 2 698 m runway, and the runway-rollout alignment was very good.
To improve future performance, reduce the threshold altitude to meet the prescribed target and aim to touch down nearer the 300 m (1 000 ft) aim point rather than well beyond it, while fine-tuning the approach speed to match the target value.
