Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,010 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,010 m of the 3,034 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 860 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 27 at LFBH La Rochelle-Île de Ré Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,341 meters, which accounted for 91% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 19 °C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 320°.
As the aircraft climbed, it started enroute climb 1 mile west of LFBH La Rochelle-Île de Ré Airport, reaching an altitude of 36,937 feet above sea level from an initial altitude of 1,051 feet. This climb covered a distance of 68 nautical miles and took 18 minutes. The aircraft then transitioned to an enroute level cruise, which started 33 miles south west of LFEY Île d'Yeu Airport. This cruise phase lasted 44 minutes and covered a distance of 279 nautical miles.
The enroute descent began 1 mile south west of Corullon, Spain, and lasted 30 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft descended from 37,472 feet to 1,519 feet, covering a distance of 117 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 35 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 349.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,318 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 35 was successful, with the touchdown point being 448 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 145 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -351 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions during landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 4°.
The total landing distance was 1,933 meters, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 472 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 107 minutes. The aircraft used 4,100 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport, with a final approach score of 89.9%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 349.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,318 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 35, which has a length of 3,034 meters. However, the threshold height at 62 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was well above the target at 153 knots, suggesting that the aircraft may have been descending too quickly or that the pilots may have been applying too much power.
The touchdown point was 448 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 145 knots was a little fast, indicating that the pilots may have been unable to fully arrest the aircraft's descent before touching down. The touchdown rate of -351 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft's wheels may have hit the ground with some force.
Despite these minor issues, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain a stable and aligned approach. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C, a wind speed of 3 knots at 4°, and a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,933 meters, which is 64% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but it is not excessively long. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, while there were some minor issues with the landing, the pilots were able to successfully bring the aircraft to a stop on the runway. With some adjustments to the approach and touchdown speed, the pilots may be able to improve the landing performance and achieve a higher score.
