Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 13,669 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 161 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 08 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, with the TBM 930 aircraft taking off after a distance of 1,549 meters, which is 48% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 134 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots coming from a direction of 90 degrees. This resulted in a headwind of 9 knots and no crosswind.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 1 mile north of Tempe, Arizona, and ascended from an altitude of 2,218 feet above sea level to 6,061 feet above sea level, an increase of 3,844 feet in just 8 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 2 miles northeast of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and lasted for 14 minutes, covering a distance of 54 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 2 miles southwest of Tortolita, Arizona, and descended from an altitude of 5,209 feet above sea level to 3,347 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,862 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. Another enroute level cruise then began 1 mile west of Casas Adobes, Arizona, and lasted for 4 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 12 at Davis Monthan Air Force Base was made from the northwest, heading 135.0 degrees at an altitude of 241 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 12, which has a length of 4,166 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots coming from a direction of 129 degrees. This resulted in a headwind of 7 knots and a crosswind of 1 knot.
The touchdown was made before the threshold, with a touchdown speed of 85 knots, which was considered fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -396 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 10 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 99 nautical miles, taking 39 minutes, and the aircraft used 137 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The TBM 930 aircraft successfully landed at KDMA Davis Monthan Air Force Base, achieving a score of 89.5%. The final approach was conducted from the northwest, heading 135.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 241 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft was on a clear path to land on runway 12, which has a length of 4,166 meters.
The pilot executed a good threshold height, indicating a well-controlled descent. The threshold speed of 85 knots was also satisfactory, demonstrating a smooth and stable approach. However, the touchdown occurred before the threshold, which may have been due to the pilot's decision to touch down early or a slight miscalculation of the aircraft's position. The touchdown speed of 85 knots was a little fast, which could have resulted in a slightly firmer touchdown.
The touchdown rate of -396 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled and stable landing. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment or a miscalculation of the aircraft's position.
The local weather conditions were favorable for the landing, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 7 knots at 129°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown.
