Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,125 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,125 m of the 3,588 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 638 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 24L at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,546 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at a direction of 319 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport and climbing from an altitude of 1,202 feet above sea level to 36,999 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,796 feet, in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 116 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 3 miles north of Bielawy, Poland, and lasted for 69 minutes, covering a distance of 516 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 4 miles northeast of Glogovac, Serbia, and descending from 36,999 feet above sea level to 3,037 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,962 feet, in 28 minutes and covering a distance of 148 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at LBSF Sofia Airport was made from the east, heading 275.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 3,588 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 144 knots. The touchdown point was 225 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 141 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -188 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 250 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 2,047 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 790 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 133 minutes. The aircraft used 4,670 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LBSF Sofia Airport, achieving a score of 95.3%. The final approach to runway 27 was initiated from the east, heading 275.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 143 kt, registering at 144 kt. However, the touchdown point was located 225 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path. The touchdown speed of 141 kt was also slightly faster than the target speed, but the touchdown rate of -188 feet per minute (fpm) was considered good.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.6 meters, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a minor issue with the aircraft's directional control. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C, with a wind speed of 7 kt from 250°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 kt, while the headwind component was 6 kt, which may have contributed to the slight deviation in the touchdown position.
The total landing distance of 2,047 meters was 57% of the available runway length of 3,588 meters, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, and the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.3%.
