Flight Score
Arrival
Time the turn onto base by bank angle so you roll out at the proper 45 degree angle to the runway, not sooner or later.
What happened: The turn from downwind onto base was rolled out at the wrong angle to the runway rather than the intended 45 degree join.
Watch for: Watch your angle to the runway through the base turn, aiming to roll out at 45 degrees.
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,866 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 280 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Commander 114 taxied to runway 23 at EGPE Inverness Airport and commenced the take-off roll, covering a distance of 390 m which represented 21 % of the available runway. Rotation was achieved at 73 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind from 269° at 2 kt, giving a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
After departure the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern from runway 23, flying a 1 nm entry segment in 25 seconds.
The subsequent left-hand cross-wind leg was completed in less than 1 nm and required 17 seconds.
The down-wind turn was flown for 2 nm with an angle to the runway of 53.7° measured from the 45° reference.
The down-wind leg itself extended 2 nm and was flown in 53 seconds.
A left-hand base turn followed, covering 1 nm and presenting an angle to the runway of 71.8° from the 45° reference.
The base leg was less than 1 nm in length and was completed in 39 seconds.
The final turn to the runway was also less than 1 nm and took 19 seconds to execute.
Landing was made on runway 23, whose total length is 1,866 m. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 73 kt. Touchdown occurred 280 m down the runway at a speed of 57 kt, with a vertical rate of minus 47 fpm and perfect alignment. Weather conditions remained 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 269°, cross-wind 1 kt and head-wind 2 kt.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect and the total landing distance measured 443 m, representing 24 % of the runway length.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 8 nm, took 5 (units as provided), and consumed 3 kg of fuel.
