Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,326 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 626 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 29L at VVNB Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Vietnam. The takeoff distance was 3,750 feet, which was 30% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 62°F and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 20°. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb after departing the airport, reaching an altitude of 40,148 feet above sea level (asl) after climbing from an initial altitude of 1,108 feet asl. This climb took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase of the flight started 32 miles west of ZGNN Nanning Wuxu Airport in Nanning, China. During this phase, the aircraft maintained a steady altitude and covered a distance of 337 nautical miles in 32 minutes. The descent phase of the flight began 3 miles west of Dongguan in Guangdong Province, China, and took 17 minutes to complete. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 39,666 feet asl to 1,343 feet asl, covering a distance of 43 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25C at VHHH Hong Kong International Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 251.0° at an altitude of 1,300 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was made on the runway, which had a length of 11,326 feet. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 139 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 624 feet, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 139 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -479 feet per minute (fpm).
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 12 feet. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 0°. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 3,302 feet, which was 29% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 515 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 88 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 8,202 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Hong Kong International Airport (VHHH) on runway 25C, achieving a score of 96.4%. The final approach was conducted from the east, heading 251.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,300 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 139 knots, which was slightly above the target threshold speed. However, the touchdown distance of 624 feet was considered good. The touchdown speed was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -479 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the aircraft may have experienced a slight loss of lift or a hard landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 12 feet from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a minor error in the pilot's alignment. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 63°F and a wind speed of 5 knots at 0°. There was a slight tailwind of 2 knots, but it was not significant enough to affect the landing.
The total landing distance of 3,302 feet was 29% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and precision.
