Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,895 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 582 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EYVI Vilnius International Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 01, with a takeoff distance of 1,043 meters, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 152 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Vilnius, it encountered local weather conditions of -7°C and a wind speed of 5 knots at 99°. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,606 feet above sea level to 20,001 feet, an increase of 18,395 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 52 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead EYAN Pečiulių aerodromas Anyksciai, lasting 3 minutes and covering 24 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 2 miles north of EYKU Kupiškio aerodromas Kupiskis, descending from 19,618 feet to 3,107 feet, a decrease of 16,511 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 2 miles west of EVAD Ādaži Airfield Ādaži, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 4 miles north of Daugavgriva, descending from 2,659 feet to 1,332 feet, a decrease of 1,327 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 18 at EVRA Riga International Airport took place from the north, with the aircraft heading 185.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 18 took place on a runway length of 2,895 meters, with the threshold height at 65 feet above ground level being above the target. The threshold speed was good at 144 knots.
The touchdown point was 168 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with the touchdown speed at 139 knots being a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -223 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline. Local weather conditions at Riga were -13°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 110°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,300 meters, accounting for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 176 nautical miles, taking 44 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,940 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Riga International Airport, achieving a score of 91.3%. The final approach to runway 18 was initiated from the north, heading 185.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold speed of 144 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
However, there were a few areas for improvement during the landing. The threshold height at 65 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. Additionally, the touchdown speed of 139 knots was a little fast, which could have resulted in a longer landing distance. The touchdown rate of -223 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, but not ideal.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 168 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the intended landing spot. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which could have resulted in a longer rollout distance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -13°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 110°. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing, as the aircraft's rollout alignment was very good.
The total landing distance of 1,300 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, while there were some areas for improvement during the landing, the Airbus A321 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency and control, resulting in a score of 91.3%.
