Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,104 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,104 m of the 3,216 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 489 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 25C at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), with a takeoff distance of 1,266 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 142 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Frankfurt Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 11°C temperature and a wind speed of 23 knots at 189 degrees. The crosswind was 20 knots, while the headwind was 12 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Frankfurt Airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,333 feet above sea level to 35,007 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,675 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 97 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 1 mile west of Baunatal, Germany, and lasting 12 minutes, covering a distance of 111 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 35,014 feet above sea level to 11,009 feet above sea level, a decrease of 24,005 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 75 nautical miles. This descent phase started 2 miles southwest of Sarstedt, Germany.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 3 miles north of Stelle, Germany, and lasting 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The descent phase that followed started 2 miles northeast of Wandsbek, Germany, with the aircraft descending from 10,731 feet above sea level to 3,987 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,743 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 29 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting overhead Rosdorf, Germany, and lasting 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The final descent phase started overhead Moenkloh, Germany, with the aircraft descending from 4,004 feet above sea level to 1,399 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,605 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 15 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport (EDDH), coming in from the northwest at a heading of 153.0 degrees, 4 nautical miles from the runway and 1,348 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 15, which had a length of 3,216 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 117 knots.
The touchdown point was 65 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 110 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -188 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 2°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 50 degrees, with a crosswind of 7 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,015 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the aircraft took 3 minutes to taxi to the parking area, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 347 nautical miles, taking 68 minutes, and used 1,026 kilograms of fuel.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, achieving a high score of 98.6%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 153.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,348 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on runway 15, which has a length of 3,216 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 117 knots was also satisfactory, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing. However, the touchdown point was 65 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path.
The touchdown speed of 110 knots was a little fast, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further to achieve a smoother landing. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -188 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown without excessive deceleration.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's skill in aligning the aircraft with the runway during the final stages of the approach. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 50°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots.
The total landing distance of 2,015 meters was 63% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and the wind conditions. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase of the landing. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in managing the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
