Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,247 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,112 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway at GMMX Menara Airport, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 10 and took off with a takeoff distance of 3,973 feet, which was 39% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 89°F, with a wind speed of 10 knots at 59°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. As the aircraft climbed, it encountered a steady headwind, which would continue to affect its flight path throughout the journey.
The enroute climb started 1 mile south of Marrakesh and took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,605 feet above sea level to 38,018 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,413 feet in 22 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 126 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which started 8 miles northwest of Casablanca and lasted for 21 minutes, covering a distance of 161 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its descent 38 miles south of LPFR Faro Airport, descending from 37,687 feet above sea level to 7,013 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,675 feet in 25 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 128 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which started 5 miles southeast of Sesimbra and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles.
The final descent started 15 miles west of Sesimbra and took the aircraft from 7,039 feet above sea level to 1,639 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,401 feet in 8 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 23 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 02 at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport, heading 23.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 02 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,121 feet, which was 37% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 130 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -289 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 66°F, with a wind speed of 18 knots at 330°. The crosswind component was 14 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 3,767 feet, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 466 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 97 minutes. The aircraft used 8,202 pounds of fuel throughout the journey.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Portela Airport) with a high score of 98.9%. The final approach to runway 02 was initiated from the south, with a heading of 23.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 136 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 1,121 feet, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed was also good at 130 knots. However, the touchdown rate was slightly below par at -289 feet per minute (fpm), which could be considered fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 feet from the centreline, but this did not seem to have a significant impact on the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 66°F and a wind speed of 18 knots at 330°. The crosswind component was 14 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots. These conditions did not appear to pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance was 3,767 feet, which is 37% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft performed well under the given conditions. The slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position and the fair touchdown rate were the only areas for improvement, but these did not seem to have a significant impact on the overall landing performance.
