Improve the rollout
Ground control varies with speed, full authority at walking pace, progressively reducing as groundspeed rises. The aircraft becomes twitchy at any speed, every small pedal input swings the nose, which can encourage large-amplitude leg inputs that no real aircraft would accept.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,322 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,322 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 67 m short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to the departure runway at VCBI Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 22, the Boeing 737-900 accelerated through a takeoff distance of 2,017 m, representing 60 % of the runway, and lifted off at 173 kt; ambient temperature was 28 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 140°, a cross-wind component of 2 kt and no head-wind.
Climb commenced one mile south-west of Katunayaka, Western Province, Sri Lanka, where the aircraft rose from 1,061 ft asl to 33,789 ft asl, an altitude gain of 32,729 ft, over a period of 30 minutes while covering 210 nm.
The first cruise segment began 14 miles south of Velankanni, State of Tamil Nadu, India, and was maintained for 42 minutes, during which 330 nm were flown at level altitude.
Descent started 10 miles south-west of Repalle, State of Andhra Pradesh, India, with the aircraft descending from 34,375 ft asl to 1,809 ft asl, a loss of 32,566 ft, in 23 minutes while covering 124 nm.
A brief second cruise phase was initiated 5 miles south-east of Gokavaram, State of Andhra Pradesh, India, lasting 2 minutes and spanning 5 nm.
On final approach to runway 23 at VORY Rajahmundry Airport, the aircraft descended from 1,301 ft agl to 80 ft agl in 89 seconds and was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 23 at VORY was executed with a runway length of 1,322 m; the threshold speed was 148 kt, touchdown occurred beyond 75 % of the available runway, touchdown speed was 146 kt, and the touchdown rate was firm at minus 367 fpm, with runway alignment described as very good. Local weather reported a temperature of 29 °C, wind 2 kt from 285°, a cross-wind of 2 kt and a head-wind component of 1 kt.
The total landing distance recorded was 1,885 m, equivalent to 143 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was noted as perfect.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 1 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 678 nm, took 113 minutes, and consumed 5,730 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 approached runway 23 at VORY Rajahmundry Airport in a stabilised configuration at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits, and the approach was scored on the stabilisation gates. Descent was from 1,301 ft AGL to 80 ft AGL in 89 seconds, meeting the required profile for a stabilised approach.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold speed of 148 kt, but the flare resulted in an excessively long touchdown point, using more than 75 % of the available runway. Touchdown speed was a little fast at 146 kt, the touchdown rate was firm at -367 fpm, and runway touchdown alignment was very good.
Touchdown occurred well aligned with the centreline, but the point of contact remained beyond the optimal aim point, contributing to the long rollout. The firm rate of -367 fpm and the slightly elevated speed of 146 kt were consistent with the observed touchdown characteristics.
Rollout alignment was perfect, yet the total landing distance measured 1,885 m, representing 143 % of the 1,322 m runway length. Local weather was 29 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 285°, including a 2 kt crosswind and a 1 kt headwind.
Aim to achieve touchdown within the first 30-40 % of the runway, targeting the 300 m (1,000 ft) aim point, and reduce touchdown speed toward the threshold speed of 148 kt to shorten the landing distance. Adjust flare timing to bring the aircraft to the runway earlier without compromising alignment.
