Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 478 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320-ceo taxied to runway 27R at London Heathrow Airport (EGLL) and commenced the departure roll. The take-off run required 1,856 m, representing 48 % of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off at 165 kt. Ambient conditions were 26 °C with a wind of 15 kt from 250°, including a 5 kt cross-wind component and a 14 kt head-wind component.
Climb began over Colnbrook (Slough, England), with the airplane accelerating from 1,065 ft asl to 36,629 ft asl, an altitude gain of 35,564 ft achieved in 18 minutes while covering 123 nm.
The first cruise segment started 1 mile north-east of Bray-Dunes (Hauts-de-France, France) and continued for 71 minutes, during which 290 nm were flown.
Descent was initiated over Boxberg (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), descending from 37,252 ft asl to 2,805 ft asl, a loss of 34,447 ft in 24 minutes and spanning 140 nm.
A brief cruise followed over Fraunberg (Bavaria, Germany), lasting 2 minutes and covering 4 nm.
The final approach to runway 26L at Munich Airport (EDDM) was conducted from the east, on a heading of 264.0°, at 4 nm distance and 1,225 ft above ground level.
Landing on runway 26L, which is 3,984 m long, occurred with a threshold speed slightly above target at 137 kt. Touchdown was recorded 69 m beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 130 kt, and the vertical speed at touchdown was minus 188 fpm. Alignment on touchdown was very good, and local weather reported 21 °C with a calm wind of 4 kt from 0°, including a 4 kt cross-wind component.
Rollout distance measured 1,218 m, representing 31 % of the runway, and the aircraft maintained very good alignment throughout the rollout.
In total, the flight covered 564 nm, taking 82, and consumed 3,280 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A330-900 entered final approach to runway 19R at ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda from the north on a heading of 191.0° at 4 nm and 1,370 ft agl, with temperature 59 °F, wind 2 kt from 150°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 1 kt head-wind component. The approach was assessed as unstable at the 1,000 ft gate because the sink rate was too high.
At the threshold the height was good and the aircraft was configured for a threshold speed that was slightly above target at 147 kt. The flare was initiated in accordance with the aircraft’s procedures.
Touchdown occurred 441 ft beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 140 kt, but the vertical rate was smooth at minus 124 fpm and runway-touchdown alignment was perfect.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 5,207 ft, representing 48 % of the 10,770 ft runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect.
Maintain a stabilized approach by moderating the sink rate to meet the 1,000 ft gate criteria, and aim to reduce touchdown speed to the target value to achieve a touchdown point within the touchdown zone; the 99.6 % score confirms the overall quality of the landing.
