Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,156 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 545 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Karratha Airport, taking 14 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 26, with a takeoff distance of 1,264 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 158 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 32 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at 276 degrees. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile west of Karratha Airport, where the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,042 feet above sea level to 37,529 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,487 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 159 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase started at a latitude of -18.2549257 and a longitude of 117.894985, lasting 39 minutes and covering a distance of 569 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 14 miles south of Dompu, Indonesia, where the aircraft descended from 37,257 feet above sea level to 1,422 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,836 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17 at Komodo Airport was made from the north, with a heading of 173.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,183 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 2,156 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was also good at 137 knots. However, the touchdown point was 129 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 136 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -301 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 26 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 23 degrees. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,226 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.9 meters from the centerline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 820 nautical miles, taking 83 minutes, and the aircraft used 288 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at WATO Komodo Airport, achieving a score of 94.1%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 173.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,183 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 17, which has a length of 2,156 meters.
The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 137 knots. However, the touchdown point was 129 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft touched down slightly further down the runway than intended. The touchdown speed of 136 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -301 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C and a light wind of 4 knots at 23°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind component was 3 knots. These conditions contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance was 1,226 meters, which is 57% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the approach and landing phases. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.9 meters from the centerline, which may be a minor concern for future landings.
Overall, the Airbus A320 performed well during the landing at WATO Komodo Airport, with a good score of 94.1%. The pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft throughout the approach and landing phases, despite a few minor deviations from the intended touchdown point and rollout alignment.
