Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3.3° glideslope and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 4,990 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,990 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 627 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 07 at KRMG Richard B Russell Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,255 feet, which was 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 146 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 64°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and there was a tailwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of KRMG Richard B Russell Airport, and climbed from 1,623 feet above sea level to 15,005 feet above sea level, an increase of 13,382 feet, in 6 minutes and covering 28 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 2 miles southeast of Chickamauga, Georgia, and lasted for 13 minutes, covering 90 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 6 miles southwest of 1A7 Jackson County Gainesboro Airport in Tennessee, and descended from 15,006 feet above sea level to 2,991 feet above sea level, a decrease of 12,015 feet, in 9 minutes and covering 48 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 4 miles east of 04KY Natchez Trace Farm Airport in Hiseville, Kentucky, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 20 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 3 miles southeast of 04KY Natchez Trace Farm Airport, and descended from 2,997 feet above sea level to 1,955 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,042 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at KGLW Glasgow Municipal Airport was from the east, with a heading of 251.0°, at 4 nautical miles and 1,238 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 26 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 628 feet, which was 49% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 114 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -294 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 2,425 feet, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 201 nautical miles, and the flight took 42 minutes, using 6,403 pounds of fuel.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed at KGLW Glasgow Municipal Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The final approach was conducted from the east, heading 251.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,238 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 26, which has a length of 4,990 feet.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 118 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing. The touchdown distance of 628 feet was also good, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down within a safe distance from the runway threshold.
However, the touchdown speed of 114 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -294 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down with a reasonable rate of descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to align the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 2,425 feet was 49% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good skills and judgment in managing the aircraft's speed, altitude, and alignment during the approach and landing phases.
